Yesterday, June 15, 2016 was a 10 hour traveling day for me from Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado to Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming! I camped at Gros Ventre Campground just inside the park. This is one of the areas where I captured pictures of moose. The other was along the Wilson-Moose Road. Found the fox at the Visitors Center.
Saw a nice rainbow while driving through Glacier Basin Campground in RMNP Monday evening after a day of thunderstorms with mostly light rain. Hiked to Nymph Lake, Dream Lake, and Emerald Lake from Bear Lake for some exercise and some landscape photos. Also hiked to Alberta Falls. Let another photographer trip my shutter for the selfie at Alberta Falls so I could get the shot without falling off a boulder like I did last autumn. Had to hike through some snow on the trail. Boot picture is for the beginning of my road trip to Alaska. I will take another one at the end of my 2016 adventure to record the difference. Had to duct tape my boots on a previous trip to Alaska. Found the log cabin near Moraine Park and the rapids on the Bear Lake Road. The lake picture is at Emerald Lake probably at about 10,000 feet elevation.
Drove Trail Ridge Road from Estes Park to Grand Lake and back again on Monday, June 13, 2016. Took a picture of my traveling buddy, Valentine with his Cloudcroft, New Mexico T-shirt on top of the high mound of snow. Smith luck had it that I got to observe Big Horn Rams at Sheep Lake and take some photos of the big guys. Don’t leave your camera home when you visit this lovely place with amazing scenery and mountain wildlife.
I camped at the Yogi Bear’s Jellystone RV Park in Larkspur, Colorado on Saturday night, June 11, 2016. Visited the Denver Zoo on Sunday; then drove to Estes Park, Colorado to stay at the KOA campground there. Gasoline prices, of course, are higher in Colorado than in Texas. But, certainly could be a lot worse! All the campgrounds in the Rocky Mountains National Park are full. Did a short drive around the park and found this rushing down the mountains from the snow melt.
Had a very nice visit at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado today. Had my first sighting of a live grizzly bear at the zoo. Check out those claws! Probably about twenty yards from the bear behind glass using my 400mm lens for the picture.
I had originally planned to drive to Colorado Springs, Colorado from Cloudcroft, New Mexico. However, I could not make reservations at an RV park because all spaces were already booked for the weekend! So, I decided it was meant to be that I would not have to drive as far as originally planned. I could and did make reservations at the KOA in Raton, New Mexico where I often stay on these long road trips. I made a stop in Carrizozo, New Mexico, an artist community with New Mexico color and décor.
I began my road trip to Alaska around 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from my home in Helotes, Texas. It was a ten and a half hour traveling day getting to Cloudcroft, New Mexico; however, I am finally here in the mountains visiting with my brother, Chuck. He is a very good host and brother!
When I’m in my vehicle for a road trip to Alaska from Texas, I’m in my “element,” my blue Honda Element. When I’m in my travel trailer, I’m in my “pod,” my white Little Guy MyPod. Got my Honda detailed and filled with gasoline today. Notice the price of gas. Let’s see how much that increases as I travel north to Alaska.
I will be starting a new adventure soon. I’m excited about revisiting the brown bears near Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park, Alaska!
